Why is there an FAQ of it? A: Because this is an FAQ for a game I made up myself, called Midgard. My friends and I affectionately title this fake FAQs "IAQs", or Infrequently Asked Questions. Q: So there's no way I can play this game? A: No. The only other existant medium that my game takes is as a comic, which can be found at http://midgard.keenspace.com . Note that while the comic is mildly funny because of wisecracks on behalf of the gamers playing the game, the story itself is not, nor will be this IAQ. Q: There are lots of differences in the IAQ from the comic. I mean, even a character is named differently. A: That is due to revisions on my part, due to clarity and compatibility issues. Some things that would work in a comic strip wouldn't work in an IAQ, and vice versa. The character Brande was originally Kary in the comic, but because of an important character with a similar name (Karl), I had to change it. Q: What's with the long version number? A: Instead of giving some obscure nonsensical number every time I update, the version number is sort of a code. Here is the deciphering, digit by digit. 1st digit - Design/layout number. He was a virtuous, insightful, and ambitious boy. Throughout his life, he dreamed of fame. He wanted to be known throughout the world. Holdi ng this frame of mind, he great up to be a wise, powerful leader. But there was one thing that haunted him: the threat of overpopulation. Earth could only fit so many people. By the time the man was ready for retirement, the world population had reached 10 billion. How were people to survive with such limited resources? 'A man starts as nothing, consumes tons of the Earth, and then dies, leaving his corpse behind. Life is no more than an ongoing struggle of survival and reproduction. Why, then, does a man so cherish his life?' He had studied the principles of Darwinism - survival of the fittest - and concluded that Social Darwinism was an important method in human nature. So, after years of research, he devised a radical plan covered up by propaganda. He planned to find the fittest - the strongest, smartest, and richest - and take them with him to burrow to the center of the earth. There, he would plant a device - the Jormungand - that would reverse the flow of gravity, slowly sending the remaining population off into space. This plan filled him with remorse, but he knew that there was nothing he could do to end suffering but end the world itself. The public heard nothing. All they knew was that the leader would solve the problem of overpopulation. There were many skeptics, but even more supporters. Before they knew it, the Jormungand was activated, and in a matter of a few days, the people of the world were sent off into the ends of the atmosphere." [ALEPH ~ LETO LECTURE HALL] A simple classroom with a teacher next to a small display screen in the front. The students sit at desks which seem to be hovering over the floor. Teacher: What has been told is actually considered science, not history. Usually mentioned with this story is Earth's loss of oceans, a moon, and an atmosphere. The human race has beguin an underground civilization by hollowing out the Eerth. The civilization, though, is separated by layers. Surrounding the Jormungard is Aleph. Surrounding Aleph is the Beyt civilization, surrounding Beyt is Gimel, and surrounding Gimel is Dalet, the outer-most layer that touches the earth's crust. Student #1: So Earth was sorta upside-down in the A.D. era? Teacher: Yes, I guess you could say that. As you all know by now, Earth is the only planet that propells objects to its center. The Jormungand is the cause of this effect. Student #2: Wait, how could the A.D. people breathe? Teacher: Well, their air was actually part of the breathable atmosphere, held down to Earth like on other planets. Student #3: So Earth wasn't hollowed out, like it is now. So when we hollowed it out, there probably was a great amount of excess earth left over. Did we just throw it into space? Teacher: No. We've used this excess earth to create strong barriers between the layers of Earth. The barriers are held together by distinguishing thick metal rings. The bell rings. Teacher: All right. See you tomorrow. [DALET ~ LEMNOS RESIDENCE] This is a small, empty room, with dirty, grafittied walls. Daniel and Zane sit in the middle. Zane: I heard a funny story once. Daniel: Hmm? Zane: A long, long time ago, the sky was up! Daniel: How was that?! Zane: How? I dunno... people were stuck to the outside, or something! Daniel: ...Weird story... Zane: How about we go see the sky today, Dan. Daniel: Okay, Zane. [DALET ~ SKY OPENING] Daniel: Tell me. What do you see in the sky? Zane: One cloud. An old story says that one cloud means something will happen to one person soon... [ALEPH ~ LETO SCIENTIFIC HIGH SCHOOL] A girl dressed in Gothic attire walks down the hall. She walks out of the school building and lights a cigarette. Brande: Screw this school. All the kids here are just preppies, training to be the best bores in all of Aleph. It makes me sick. If only I didn't leave for Leto... I'd still have my friends... freedom... just a life... Headmaster: Hey! You! No smoking on school grounds! Brande becomes surprised, and as a reflex, she draws her gun and aims it at the headmaster. She realizes what she's doing, turns, and runs. Headmaster: AFTER HER! She's got a weapon! Brande: Stupid, STUPID reflexes! Why did I even bring my gun? Men in uniform pursue Brande as she runs down a street. Brande: Why the hell does this kind of stuff always happen to me? I can never make a good impression ANYWHERE! I'm on the run AGAIN! [DALET ~ SKY OPENING] Daniel and Zane are approached by a muscular man and his two thugs. Sibel: Who said you guys could visit OUR sky opening? Daniel & Zane: The Gimel Gang!!! Sibel: If you like looking at the sky so much, you wouldn't mind spending some time falling through it! Well, guys, how about it? It's so misguiding and badly translated that it's completely unusable. Use regular attacks on these guys. If your HP gets low, use a Cure Tablet.
